Mite Question?

:hmm: I have been reading about mites. Does anyone know if Balls can get mites from your yard? I live in Kansas. Anyone know if snake mites live in the grass of residential yards?

I believe they can, but mites are specific to their hosts. So there would need to be a reptile community living in your yard in order for your snake to be exposed to reptile mites. However, I've never heard of this happening from people allowing their snakes to roam in their yard so I don't think there's much of a risk.

Yea the chance is slim to none.

Thanks for replies. I have had a mite problem on a newly aquired animal and man has it been a pain. I have oredered some PAM and have been using Reptile Relief and warm water soaks. So far none of my other collection have any signs of mites. Thank God! :taz:

Once you get the PAM, it would be a good idea to treat your whole collection. Mites can travel pretty far in a relatively short amount of time (about a foot an hour if I remember right), and are quite good at finding new hosts.

Also make sure you follow the PAM instruction exactly. Letting it dry fully and so on. Don't take short cuts with that stuff it could cost you your collection.
