Has anyone heard a ball python Fart Lol!!!
Ok this was strange, I have 5 ball pythons in seperate tanks in my living room, one of my albino hets let out the craziest noise I had ever heard, has anyone else ever heard this. Ive never heard anything but a hiss from snakes, I know this was gas because he also shot poo across the tank, that was wild......... Sorry for gross subject but I had to ask......

Well I have heard of ball pythons passing gas, though haven't heard any of my own do it. I can attest to the fact though that RTB's fart, and it's pretty darn loud coming out of a big ole female LOL.

Actually yes, Houdini has ripped a few good ones lol. Including one night my husband wakes me up out of a dead sleep, Kristy there is something wrong with your snake. I wake up here him farting away and say to Shaun no theres not he's just farting. A few long seconds of awkward silence, then Shaun says, Thats disgusting.

I would have never guessed, considering the lack of butt cheeks. Maybe the rodent breeder is using bean-based based food pellets. LOL

    :fart:

There might be something serious to consider here though. Unless the snake is consuming air then the gas is coming from bacterial action in the digestive system. It might be smart to take a poo sample to the vet to make sure there aren't any nasties living in your snake's bowels. I was picking up some feeders today and "Mr. F/T" was there giving me grief for feeding live. He works at a vet and says he sees snakes with intenstinal infections all the time. He rattled off a pretty impressive list of bacteria and parasites and said that live-feeders should get a checkup once per year.

Which reminds me, when I was in there I noticed this massive boa had just done his business. It made me shudder.

Re: Has anyone heard a ball python Fart Lol!!!
Yea, that's almost exactly what the manager of the store says. I think he's guilty of exaggeration / paranoia. Even if they saw a few snakes a week that's probably still minor considering there's probably 50 ball pythons sold per day in a city this size. The population of pet snakes must be 10's of thousands. And, considering how the stores flip live mice on Fri and Sat nights, all from the same sources, there would be epidemics. But, not all of these things create an emergency situation so who knows. Its probably not a bad idea to get a vet to do a poo inspection every now and again if its not too costly.

Mr. F/T says he just gives all his snakes the treatment once per year. I guess he likes to run a clean ship!
