Feeding Help

I know that RTB's grow quite quickly for the first few years or so and for those of us with only one of them it is sometimes difficult to find a supply of frozen feeders. I have a few questions. How long will frozen rodents last in the freezer and since it is much cheaper to buy larger quanities of rodents would it be ok to feed a RTB multiple smaller prey items instead of one larger one as long as the overall weight of the meals would be comparable? With how quickly they grow they would move up in prey size quickly which would make ordering from somewhere like rodent pro difficult because you have to buy a ton of rodents in each bag.

Is this a good feeding guide for a RTB? From what I've read here, the prey size seems small here especially during the first year or two. By the way mine is a female if that helps any.


Baby boas - 18 to 22 inches - Newborn to 3 months
Should be fed pinkie or fuzzy rats. They can be fed one food item every 4 to 5 days.

Juvenile boas - 2 to 3 feet - 3 to 12 months
Should be fed Fuzzy or Pre-weanling rats. They can be fed one food item once a week. (7 days)


Yearling boas - 3 to 4 feet - 1 to 2 Years
Should be fed a Weanling/Small/Medium rat every two weeks. You can use the smaller prey items such as a Weaned/Small rodents to maintain a smaller in size adult boa, or the Medium rodent for a larger sized adult boa..


Adult boas - 4 feet and up - 2 Years and up
Should be fed a large to jumbo rat depending on length and girth. I feed adult females and males every two weeks, however the rat size offered to adult males and females differ in size, with females receiving Large/Jumbo rats and males receiving Small/Medium size rats. This keeps them compatibly sized.

You can post info from other sites its all good.. As for the size I'm not a Boa guy so I can't help there. If i'm not mistaken you can mix and match orders from rodent pro.

I guess I'll just call them up and ask. I'm not sure but it looked like I had to order a one bag minimum and for some sizes that could be 100 rodents. I'm pretty sure that I will need a bigger size before my snake would eat that many. Or could I just start feeding more than one when I would have moved up in size?

I would say that's a pretty good feeding guide. The only thing I would change is 2-3ft 3-12 months sholuld be fed weanling rats to small rats. I feed my 9 month old boa a small rat every 7 days.
Also the rats will stay in the freezer for well over a year. I don't know exactly how long. But I have a bag of rats in my freezer that has some rats in there for over a year and a half. All still perfectly fine,.
