Out of curiousity why would you want to feed a bird.

When feeding a nice f/t mouse or rat will be much easier on the snake, and you. Most likley every person on here would agree with me when I say don't feed your ball a bird.

Yes you probably could, and it probably would eat it, but why do it?

X2 I've heard they can eat chick's on occasion, But why not just stick with a good ole mouse or rat? of course if you feed a bird you'd want to make sure its F/T anyway, so what's the difference between that and mouse.

plus if you get them eating chicks they might not switch back to mice or rats very easily. i don't know about you but it's easier to get F/T mice and rats (pet stores, feeder breeders ect) then it is to pick up a chick.

on a side note, a friend of mine got a gerbil for some reason and decided to give it to his ball. he took it, but then decided he only wanted to eat gerbils from then on. and at $12 a pop at the pet store, he was sooooooo glad he switched him after 2 months of trying.

Well when I use to breed BPs I would always have some adults that would just not eat so I started ordering chicks by the 50 count. They loved them and after several feedings of chicks they went back to eating rats no problem. Now I have no problems at all but I know what to do to get them back to eating in the future. Try the chicks, just for a while then take the sub straight that the chicks were in and shake the dead rat up in it and try that it should work.

If he eats mice/rats fine, no need to feed chicks.

so you had balls that just wouldn't eat... you fed them chicks a few times, and then they started eating rats again? or did you have to sent the rat with the chicks?

    also were the chicks live?

Well what I did was feed them chicks for a couple of feedings then switch back to "red meat". Yes coat the rat in shavings or even thaw them out with a dead chick, I would use that one dead chick a couple of times then toss it because after several refreezings they go bad. Then gradually before you know it you are feeding totally red meat.

I have had my fare share of non eaters back when they use to import BPs from the wild and this worked every time.

There is one other source of food that BPs love...gerbils! The smell of those rodents makes the BPs go nuts, it's their natural source of food in the wild. But be careful with these they some times fight back on you or the snake!
