    heating question
Trying to switch my milksnake to a tub. Have been using glass aquarium and a light bulb. Asked at petstore and said a UTH might melt the plastic. Recommended a hot rock, I didn't know stores still sold those. So what are you guys using. I don't have a rack, was just trying one tub. Any advice?

    Hi,

Tell him the heatrock is prone to hotspots and is only reccomended by most people on this forum as cage decoration once the mains cord is cut off.:)

Any heatsource should be regulated in some way to give peice of mind that it will maintain the temp range your snake needs and not get hot enough to cause problems. Flexwatt ( my fave at the mo) can get up to 110f unregulated for example which means it would be able to maintain the temps needed by your milk in most homes without any problems even in winter. But it also means it needs regulating so as not to get far to hot.

The maximum temp seems to depend on brand and locality - the stuff we get over here is really bad in comparison to american models.

A nice thermostat and a good brand UTH would be what I would go for in your situation.

This post should give you stuff to reseach till the milk snake experts get here and tell me to go mind my own buisness. :D

Absolutely. They run at the same temperature.

Thank You. Only one pet store in 100mile radius. Do most of my shopping over internet. Going by what I read for ball pythons, but having a hard time visualizing the UTH thing and how to set up correctly. Tub is a "sterulite". About 1 1/2' by 2 1/2' by 6" tall. Only have ZooMed "Desert Species" UTH at store. Is this what I want? I don't understand how to hook up to thermostat.
