Bunny Litter

As many of you remember, I bought a bunny for my gf for valentines day. Everythings going well but we recently tried to use a corner litter pan in its cage and we used cat litter and the bunny started to eat it. I don't know how toxic that is but do any of you bunny lovers have any suggestions to a substitute for litter?

Feed stores sell 50lb bags of alfalfa pellets that work well, and if eaten, oh well :) You can also get a paper based litter like Yesterday's News, and that's easily broken down via bunny tummy.

I use carefresh for my rabbit's litter but you can use various litters. Cat littere is not suggested. However they do tend to taste the litter to see if its edible so for this factor cat litter is harmful. Remove it immediately!

Have you tried Swheat? Clumps like cat litter but is totally digestible. I've been using it for my pair of mice, and I like it...less odor and the urine is eaily removed.

I've never heard of Swheat but i know about the pellets and carefresh. Yeah we removed the cat litter right away. Thanks for the help.

Swheat should not be use with any animal bigger then a guinea pig cause the urine with cause swheat to become cement like. One of my friends used it with her guinea pig and she had to take it to the vet to get surgically removed a pile of cement-like swheat.

The point of clumping litter is that it clumps....you scoop them out. Unless the guinea pig was sitting in wet clumps of litter long enough for them to dry to its body?

It had to be surgically remove from the feet. The stuff actually drys fast enough to create a cement like trap.

Well, it is rather like bread dough in that it hardens really hard...but it doesn't dry that fast, I promise. I'd bet she wasn't cleaning it adequately, or had the piggie in too small an enclosure or something like that. I've been using it for ages with my kitties, and have yet to find any of them adhered to the litterbox. :-)

It takes hours to solidify....trust me on that. I can't imagine any animal in good health and with adequate space getting trapped in it.
