Humidity - Hygrometer Placement
I am getting my setup ready my new BP I am getting. I got the Acurite that everyone recommended. To test things out I sat the Acurite at one end of the tank and the probe at the other with no heat source on. Both read the same temperature. The humidity was about 49-30% with no substrate.
So I add the Repti-bark and leave the Acurite where it is. The humidity goes through the roof! To the point of reading "Hi" So I figure maybe it's due to being partialy buried in the bark. So I sit on the surface with the front next to the glass. It now reads 79%.
All I have done is add the bark. Do I have the Acurite in the wrong spot to take a real reading? Or maybe I shouldn't be concerned until I get the UTH heat going?
Thanks.
Re: Humidity - Hygrometer Placement
I keep mine just above the substrate. I don't know if there is a better placement for it, but you can have a low humidity, even with wet substrate if there is too much ventilation. I keep it away from the top because that is the least humid place in the enclosure and the snake doesn't go up there anyway.
Re: Humidity - Hygrometer Placement
I use reptibark and its pretty moist when u first put it in the cage, but it starts to dry out especially if you have an overhead heat source like a lamp or ceramic heat emitter
