I'm thinking of Leo-proofing my room

I've had my leo for...oh jeez I don't even know...a month or 2 I guess, and I still have yet to take him out of the tank (except for when I coax him into a cardboard pet carrier for when I have to clean). I THINK hes smart enough not to jump out of my hand if I picked him up, but who knows. This is why I'm thinking of "leo-proofing" my room. By that I mean put some sort of barrier infront of everything he might scurry under (dresser, bed) if he jumped out of my hands. I'm thinking just strips of cardboard. What are your takes on this? Would this accomplish anything, or am I just paranoid?

hmm, well, I did it...and what do you know, he didn't jump. All that work for nothing, oh well. I think I'm going to install a more permanant version of this over ALL the nooks and crannies in my room, it will make finding an escapee MUCH easier I think. Its better to do this now then have something escape and learn the hard way.

Its not a bad idea. I was really freaked out when I first got my leos about holding them and them taking a leap. Although the never did, my cresties on the other hand lol They are leapers.

If it makes you feel more comfortable, go for it. Glad he didn't jump though :) Once they are adults, they aren't quite as fast though. I am not sure how old yours is but once they are bigger its a lot easier. Those babies can be very quick.

I'm probably going to have some free range tokay geckos when I get my herp room done. I can't help much on leo proofing though

leos really aren't fast enough that i personally worry with mine, now the house geckos on the other hand... i've had a few disappear off somewhere in my apartment and there was just nothing to be done.

Leos are slower than a lot of geckos...easy to capture if they "get away"...

Now...try a Day Gecko...thats a fun one to try and retrieve off the ceiling or walls.:mad: :D

I had my leo out today again, and I let him crawl around on my shirt a little bit, and his claws really dig deep into there, I'm just wondering if I pull him off is there a risk of damaging his claws and/toes?

Well he's only little so I would take extra care when unhooking him if that's what you mean.

You just mean little in general right? Because he certainly is not little for a leopard gecko.
