help me diagnose a kitten killer!
one of my gradmas kittens was killed by some creature when she got home form church sunday night. she left the garage door open till she got home at 9:30 pm and then she closes the door for the night. one of the two kittens was flat as a pancake by the door with a little bite mark on its neck and it look like something ate its insides! what animal does that? she lives in the county near bellingham washington.
thanks
Re: help me diagnose a kitten killer!
Im so sorry! Thats an awful thing to happen to any one. I would say a raccoon, they are the only thing ballsy enought to get that close to the house. That, or some kind of weasel. What you got around there?
Re: help me diagnose a kitten killer!
I'd think something in the weasel family too, maybe a badger or wolverine.
Re: help me diagnose a kitten killer!
Could have been a raccoon or an opossum. Also, tomcats will kill kittens they have not fathered, usually by biting the neck....could have been the kitten was killed and then something else just took advantage of the free dead meat.
I know that I'm beating a dead horse here, and that the kittens are not directly in your care, but this why it's not safe to leave them outside. The life expectancy just isn't in their favour.

Nah...I don't think it could ever be said enough.
Re: help me diagnose a kitten killer!
i don't think there are wolverines in bellingham... i'd lean more towards a racoon. or a tomcat.
Re: help me diagnose a kitten killer!
in WA... Hmmmm
could have been a fox, or even a bird of prey like an owl or something

Re: help me diagnose a kitten killer!
I live in North Idaho and the Coyotes are everywhere up here. I wouldn't be suprised if thats what it was. There are many things in the North West that could have done it. Raccoons, Coyotes, Moutnain Lion, Bob Cats, Bears, Badgers, Wolverines, all sorts of critters out here.

Sounds like a raccoon or a fox but I have to a agree with Kristy since it's could be one of those animals too. I know I've found dead kittens, ducks, chicks at the farm I ride at that have been killed and "eaten". Never a pretty sight thats for sure.
