    tub with hides
if i have a 15 qt tub for a baby ball python, i have the tub, flexwatt, newspaper, thermometers and some rheostats etc. So in need decoration now, if i get only one hide because of how small the tub is, so should I place it on the warm side, the cool side, or the middle?

    Thanks

When i use tubs with newspapers as the substrate i never add a hide. The snake uses the newspaper as his/her hide :P .It will move under the papers as it needs to regulate his/her temps.

Little cream cheese containers, or the very small pet igloos will probably fit in the 15 qt. tub for your baby. I have the Rubbermaids and they say 12 qt, and I've got two hides and water for the babies.

If you do use hides, you'll need two that are identical.

my guy is rediculous. i put the hide in his tank, and he gets in it AND MOVES INSIDE OF IT, so he can have it on the cool side when he wants, or the warm side. makes it easy on me cause i dont have to buy to hides! its funny to see JUST A HIDE moving like its haunted haha

many would suggest hides, but it mostly depends on how your baby settles in, if they eat and act fine without one, then there will be no problem, but some may need super tight hides to feel comfortable. The hides don't need to be identical either as long as they're snug for the snake. Others will say that hides are 100% needed but it all has to do with experiences with babies kept and the difficulty of each individual baby. I've been lucky enough to have snakes that eat and that don't stress too terribly easily so at the moment almost all my snakes are on newspaper and don't use hides and are doing fine.
