music and sounds and ball pythons
Hi, my ball python is in my room across from my computer. I am always playing music. Most of the time it is farly loud. Today when I was cleaning the cage I had music on and I felt the cage and I could feel the vibrations of the music. I'm guessing the snake can feel it much more than me. Could this be bad and cause stress?

    Hi,

It certainly has the potential to cause stress - but the best indicator of all is your snakes behaviour.

Does it eat on a regular basis? Is it constantly roaming the cage or staying hidden in its hides with a head hanging out occasionally?

How often do you handle it and what does it do when thats is happening?

If you can tell us these then people will be more able to judge your snakes stress levels on an individual basis rather than just a generral rule of thumb.

He doesnt always eat on a regular basis though he is now. So for that reason I dont think the not eating on a regular basis is the music becuase I play music all year and now he is eating on a regular basis but at other times when I still play music he doesnt eat on a regular basis. He rarely ever roams at night. He is in his hides most of the time with his head hanging out about 1/4 of the time. I handle him aprox 2 times a week and normaly when I take him out he usually just relaxes on me.

Mine is doing that now, always leaving his head hanging out, i went to go hold him and he moved all over his cage like he was getting ready to strike so I left him alone....so as far as leaving his head hanging out, your not the only one.

Here is my secret..you can try it out. I have a 1010Watt system in my room and it hits hard. At first I felt the vibrations like crazy, but I put two beach towels under the glass cage and now it is no problem. My snake has never ever missed a meal and since he is acting like a ball python should I figure he isnt stressed. So try some towels to absorb the vibration.

I use touching the cage and water vibrations to test the level of vibration in the cage.
