strange question about tanks.

I am looking for a small baby ball python right now and have almost all of the equipment but still in packaging. I have a 20 gallon standard fish tank (glass 24lLx 12H x 16W. I was wondering if i could lay the tank on its side so that it has a higher surgace area. I have a sliding lid so i could put the pin in and make it lock.
I could probably put some of those furniture risers to put space between the dresser and the tank.The question is more about if the tank would be alright and not break, i use newspaper as substrate until i can put him in a 55. Would this work?

I've seen it done a few times now and then. It never looks quite "right," but it appears to have worked.
I'm a big advocate of using plastic containers for ball pythons, they keep heat and humidity a lot better than glass, even one laying on its side. IMO having a tank laying like that does take away from its aesthetic appeal, so you might as well be using the plastic tub anyway.
24x16 is still a good amount of space for a baby ball python. You can make a glass tank work, but you'll have to put a lot of effort into it. Check out one of the "stickies" at the top of the husbandry forum, more on that there.

There are kits out there to make fish tanks into terrestrial tanks. I am not sure who makes them though. A 55 gallon tank is way too big for a baby ball python. They like to feel secure and safe and a 55 gallon is just too big.
