Re: helix probe question..
I tape mine directly to the Flexwatt. That way you don't have to fiddle with it in the tub. You may have to bump the temps on the Helix in order to get the desired temps in the tub, but at least you don't have to worry about it moving around. ;)
Re: helix probe question..
I use aluminum tape and tape it right to the heating element. Let the Helix directly control the flex...then use your normal thermometer inside the cage to tell you the inside temp. :) Between them both you will be able to dial it in perfectly...and this way you don't risk the helix probe moving and spiking your temp.
Re: helix probe question..
Jen,
I can't find any pictures of my probe placement on my CB-70 racks at the moment, but if you take a look at the thread below, I explained how I do it there. Hope that helps.

Re: helix probe question..
That is a good method to use. I personally have mine taped to an empty tub in the rack which never moves. Besides, Helix has a safety feature built in to turn off when it runs full blast for too long if I am not mistaken.
Re: helix probe question..
I taped mine right to the flex on the bottom under the tub. My flex is one solid pc that runs across the bottoms of the tubs and then up the side to the next level/tub and so on and so forth. ( check Boaphile site for example )
I use 2" clear shipping tape and tape the probe right in the bend of the tape where it comes down the side then goes across the bottom.
I have my Helix set at 94 and w/ 4 sheets of unprinted newspaper on the warm end and two sheets on the cool end my temps stay 91-93 and 81-83 depending on the temp in my room and the weather outside ie cold or warm.
Re: helix probe question..
OK; this explanis a lot :) I thought that it had to go inside of the tub, and risk being moved around by the snake. I am glad that I know otherwise now!

Ditto.
I have the probe thermometer in the tub to monitor the temps inside.
