    Humidity Level Issues
    Hey all...

I have a humidity problem now.
The humidity in my tanks are kinda low.
The Python might hit 30% if we are lucky and the corn snake is about the same.

I mist everyday and that brings it up to 50ish but it drops withing minutes.

I use an aquarium which I know is much harder to regulate.
I also have the water under the heat lamps which I think is what is keeping it up at 30%ish. But I'd like to get it to 40 or even 50 in the Python tank? Any suggestions?

My temps are high in the warm end as well. I used to use 60 and 100 watt bulbs and now I use 40 but they are still high!
    Hot is 95-96-97.
I should invest in a few thermostats but anyone have any other ideas?

The thermostat would deff be a good idea, what size is your tank? and have you modified the top like in this link?

Also what are you using to monitor temps? if your using the dial guage's they're horrible and can be way off, digitals work much better.

Hi Jonny. When I used a tank with a screen top, I had great success with putting a damp towel on top of the enclosure. Damp towels stay damp for hours and raise the humidity a great deal. Give that a shot and let is know how it works out for you.

    Good luck :gj:

edit: Also, one of the things that drying out the tank is the heat lamp. you only need belly heat set at ~93 degrees.

    I have a 40g long tank.
I've just bought 2 digital thermometers and thats what they are reading.

I will try the wet towel thing. sounds like a giood idea, but I'm just worried if I cover it, it will get hotter inside because the head doesnt escape as much??

Then you need to have your heat lamp hooked up to a dimmer/thermostat as well so that if it does get too hot, it shuts off.

Well last night I unplugged the heat lamps from the Corn Snake tank to see how it works and when they were on it was about 98-97 F and now it's 93ish. But thats the hot side. I didnt check the cool side. I will tonight.
But if I can get the temps lower then I guess I can work on the humidity better.

I do like the wet towel idea so I might give that a go once the temps are spot on.

Does anyone know if you can buy dimmers or thermostats from Walmart that will work??? or Canadian Tire or some place like that?

You should get those temps WAY down for the corn snake, 90s is far too high. They need 85 on warm side 75 cool side. 88 is about the highest that is safe for them.

I'd scrap the lamps entirely and use UTH with thermostats.

WalMart sells a pre made lamp dimmer that works quite well for $9.

When we did use a glass tank we followed these instructions for the screen lid...

At some point we had to much humidity and had to adjust it..dont know if you have a screen top or not *shrugs*

And we also used the dimmer from wal-mart..worked like a charm.

Under 90 eh. I will work on it. I have turned his lights off completly so that is helping and now all he uses is the UTH. But I dont have it connected to a thermostat. The cool side is at a 77 which isnt too bad but again it could be lower.
Perhaps if I turn the heat down in my room it might help.

I do have a screen top. It's not really screen but a metal mesh or whatever.
I might give that a go for the humidity levels.
I leave for London in a fews days so I will give it ago when I come back.
    Thanks for the tip eh.
