Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
Hey what do you guys recommend Flexwatt heat tape or the under tank heat pad? I will be using aspen as the bedding and the tank is 30inch long and 12inch wide. I will use the ranco to control the temps on it.
Thanks
Re: Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
it shouldn't really matter, just make sure if you use flex watt, you get the end crimped good and tape them w/ electrical tape...
But your zoo med uth, exo terra, or cobra uth's are good too.
Re: Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
I prefer flexwatt - I buy it from http://www.reptilebasics.com and purchase the connectors and ask Rich to wire it for me for free.
Re: Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
I prefer FW mainly because of the price and how thin it is, but I find it warms up faster as well.
Re: Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
It doesn't really matter as long as you are using a thermostat to control them. However, Flexwatt has a few benefits...
(1) you can get it in the exact size you need it.
(2) By buying only what you need the cost is lower, and you save on power by not having a pad that is too big/small.
(3) the cost is also lower because you aren't buying a retail product.
If you decide to go with Flex I agree with Robin - Rich at Reptile Basics is a great guy to deal with
Re: Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
What size flexwatt would I need for a 20 gal tank?
Re: Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
I would use a 1' section of 11" flexwatt.
Re: Flexwatt heat tape or UTH?
the 11'' is just a square 11'' that measures same on all sides right?

Nope...it is sold by the foot. So it is 11" across by 12" (for 1 foot) or 24" (for 2 feet), etc.:)
