My humidity issue

In my rack of 4 tubs all the tubs but the top one maintain a good humidity level in the 50's. All except the top tub which houses my albino Edgar.
That tub stays in the low 60's even after I have drilled holes down the sides.
I don't want to drill to many then in the winter when the heat comes on and humidity becomes a problem in my house then it will be to low.
All cages are set up the same. Unprinted newspaper, delicup water bowl and same type of hides ( plastic bowls )
Temps are in the 82-83 range on the cool and 91.9-93 on the hot.
Is 61-63% humidity to high that I should be concern about possible R/I?

Low 60s isn't bad. If you want to get it down you can drill a few more holes, then cover them up with tape in the winter. I use the blue painter's masking tape to bump humidity when necessary, and it works fine.

I wasn't sure if taping the holes would help in winter and then I wasn't sure which tape to use that wouldn't leave guck all over the tub when I removed it. :)

I have tons of blue painters tape. I use it to mark the walls for the painters and drywall point up guys who work on my houses.

I found that lighter fluid on a cotton bud or cloth can remove a lot of the glue left by brands such as sellotape.


As always test these things on old/broken tubs of the same plastic so you haven't damaged any important equipment if there is an unforseen reaction.

I always meant to ask - when taping over holes do you put small bits of tape facing the other way over the holes first so the snake can't stick its tongue up against the sticky side of the tape?

A trivial question I know but my mind works like that some days. :oops:

Pretty funny image of a snake with his tongue stuck on the tape... hissing with a lithp. :P But to answer your question, I just place the tape directly on the outside of the bin. The sticky side does face the inside through the holes, but the holes are pretty small, the adhesive on the blue tape isn't very strong and snake tongues are pretty quick. ;) I wouldn't worry about it.
