thinking about getting a corn

i already have a ball python, and i want to get something that is alittle more active, and from what i've read corns are that. i have read all the care sheets and stuff and i can set up a nice home for him/her, but i was wondering if anyone can throw anything else at me. maybe some ideas for housing, heating, substrate? anything will be helpful thank you.

hi.. well I have two corns, so I could help ya a bit. they can be housed as hatchlings/yearlings in a 10g tank. Once they reaching adult size, they can go into a 20g long or larger tank. You need 2 hides, one water dish, a UTH (under tank heater), a thermostat w/probe, a humidity gauge (the stick on kind works okay), and some kind of decorations.. stick for climbing, fake plants etc. Another optional thing is a lamp with a nightglo bulb for night time viewing. It gives of minimal heat, yet simulates moonlight, encouraging nighttime activity. Temps on the hot side should be around 85 degrees and the cool side should be around 75 degrees. These should be substrate temps, not ambient air temps. substrate can be aspen chips, jungle earth mix, eco-earth, but not sand of any kind it can cause impaction leading to death. Humidity should be around 40-50%, a bit higher during sheds, although providing a moist hide can work too. Think I covered everything I could think of at the moment. Hope this helps you.

Sounds like you mentioned eveything Ladydragon. To me, they are alot easier than BP's. The only thing is that they are on the move when you get them out to handle. Corns don't just chill like BP's when handled. They are tongue flicking and checking everything out. The only thing I can add is to be sure to have a secured enclosure. These guys can be escape artists.

thanx.. and dont I know about them being escape artists.. as you can see from my signature.. my new 06 girl managed to get out.. :( . I hope I find her again, but in the meantime I keep searching. And yes, they are more active when holding them, the are curious, inquisative (spelling?), always wanting to check out something. But all in all they are generally calm with great dispositions.

one of the reasons i am going to add a corn to my collection (well start of one) is because they are so active. my ball is like a log most of the time just chilling. thanks for the help.

Inside her cage, Zim is rather inactive unless she is hungry. Once taking out for handling though, she's like the energizer bunny. She wants to check everything out. A nice snake if you want something active. Mine is very docile and loves to climb.

if i were to but a tree branch or a stick in there would they climb on it? i have one in my bp tank and the only time he uses it is to rub some shed off. i personally love the way snakes move, i can sit for hours just watching them slither around.

Derek is my albino corn and he is pretty active when taken out but Ayla is just CRAZY when she gets taken out! :rolleye2: They are very fun, cool snakes just don't let go cause man can they MOVE! :bolt: lol.

Most corn will use a branch for climbing but some won't. I have one adult female who thinks shes a sand boa, always burrowing
