    Lowering humidity level
What would be a good way to do this? I just got the setup today (picking up my BP next tuesday) im using a 10 gal tank with jungle earth substrate. My humidity levels have mostly been between 70-80% though, with a temperature around mid 80s with a max of 88.5. Would an overhead light do the trick or what?

Assuming you just put the bedding in the tank right out of the bag is why your humidity is so high...it will naturally dry out over time (a few days to a weeK), you can speed it up by adding a light or take it out and put it in the sun for a few hours. Pretty much any of those bagged earth substrates are high in humidity to start and them dry out over time.

ok that sounds logical. Im also going to leave the hygrometer on in the room outside of the tank and check the max/min when i get back from dinner because living in florida to begin with the humidity might just be naturally somewhat high.

You say your temps are 80-85; are these for the cool side? DO you have an under tank heater?(UTH) You need a warm side that should be 92-95 degrees.

That is for the warm side. Just a reminder I dont have the snake yet, Im picking him up next week, Im just trying to get the stuff regulated and fixed before i get him. The reading on my hydrometer was between 63-66% in the room, not even inside the tank so i guess im going to have to try and find a way to fix that, idk tho. I dont even know if putting it outside in the sun would be greatly beneficial as the humidity here in florida is pretty high. Im pretty sure my mom has somethin that is supposed to soak some of the moisture out of the air, i may need to use that in that room to help a little.

Just a recommendation, you may want to switch from jungle earth, to forest bark (I’m assuming your talking about exo-terra products) because jungle earth causes a lot of unnecessary particles to float around in the air. Forest bark is pretty much the same woodchips but with no soil on them. This could also fix your humidity issue.

Ya i may have to. Im going to move a lamp over it in a little bit and see how much of a help that is to the tank with drying it up and maybe even increase the heat a little. Im going to give it a couple days to see how much it will dry up since the stuff is still pretty fresh out of the bag.

if you dont wanna waste money on a new bag of substrate i think youd be safe washing to get the dirt off (and let it dry thoroughly of course)

ill try cleaning it thoroughly if this lamp doesnt do the trick but it seems to be helping. Its dropped from about 78% down to 71% at the moment in the past hour or so since i turned the heat pad back on and put the lamp next to it.

I think the lamp is doing the trick. My temperature is 90 and humidity is 63 so it should be where i need it by next tuesday.
