F/T to LIVE

What is the process to switch over from F/T? My bp is discouraged to eat now since I intro'd him to live. Its been over a few weeks now since he last ate? Help pls...

If he was eating f/t...why switch to live? Just curious.


He could be a bit nervous because he's not used to prey that actually moves around and may fight back. If you feel like you MUST switch to live...maybe try a few young fuzzy rats that don't move around too much...until he gets used to the idea of prey that actually wiggles and moves. :confuzd:

But if it were me, I'd just stick with f/t, if that's what he likes to eat.

yha that does sound a little on the backwords side of things. most people want to get them from live to f/t

I was tired of thawing them and blow drying them and just decided to buy a live mice that day....well im going to try a f/t one this weekend... :rockon:

i would try going from f/t to pre killed then to live if that is relly what you want to do.

Maybe try thawing them a different way. I thaw 8 rats every week and it's no bother. You can double bag them in zip top bags and put them in some warm water, or put them under some heat lamps for a few hours, then feed. There's no need to blow dry them. It's way more of an inconvenience for me to go to the store/reptile show every week to get a couple of rats for my non-f/t feeders.

its not that....im just so anxious to feed him that waiting for it to thaw and blow dry it takes a lot of time. I just got him so everything is new and exciting to me...

I usually take the mouse out to thaw the morning of feeding, go to classes and whatnot, then feed him that evening.

Even if you want to feed earlier, you could take it out to thaw before you go to bed and it'll be ready by morning.

And warming a mouse up doesn't really take long after it's thawed.

Everyone tells me to move from LIVE to F/T, My vet gave me a lecture on moving, and i see it alot on this site.

I understand that, yeah maybe with rats it can be a problem if the snake miss's, but i've been feeding live and my BP get's it like it's nothing. Even as a baby i was feeding him large mice ( i didn't know what i was doing really at that point ) but he never had problems.

I guess it's one of those things where it has to happen in order to understand it or something?

Who knows, i just feed mice and they're no match for my BP.
