Bp Investment....what To Choose
I have a big decision to make as I am investing in a few morphs but like many my bank account is not bottomless
What do you guys think are good bas morphs to start with and what is important to have that may provide me with the most possibilities.
Cheapest to Most Expensive
Normal Females
Het Albino
Pastel Male
Het Axanthic
Pastel Female
Het Pied
Axanthic
Hypo
Albino
Spider
Mojave
Pied
Caramel Albino
What sexes are best would you think?
At the moment I have two normal males and two normal females. Only one female will breed this year.
This is more of a hobby to be honest but I would like to be able to breed to pay off the snakes in the end. I love BP's (and GTPS and HOGGS but thats another discussion)
Re: Bp Investment....what To Choose
Pick what you like...you'll be cleaning its poop for the span of its whole life, so you'd better like what you're looking at.
Investing in ANY of those morphs and breeding them will pay for themselves many times over. Think LONG-TERM, not just what you can do in a year or two.

Bingo!
Re: Bp Investment....what To Choose
A bunch of normal females, and a few dominant trait males; think Pastels, Spiders; Mojave.
This is my plan at least. :) males Pastel and Spider.. eventual Supers, Bees, etc.. but I am not doing it for the money; it is a nice byproduct of keeping animals that I love.

x2. Recessive stuff I think will be holding their value better only because it takes longer to get them. Co-doms are good to get some money back sooner though

lol; I don't have That many females.. three girls that are breeding now, one '06 who's a baby still, and another '06 that I am getting in the next few weeks. But it is a good plan!

And this is case in point as to something else to think about with co-dominant mutations.
Anyone with half a brain has realized that they can mass-produce co-dominant mutations and the supply of these mutations is going to skyrocket in the next couple of years. Good news is that these morphs will be more attainable to non-investor/non-breeder types, bad news (to an investor) is that you will be selling these for non-investor/non-breeder prices.
Recessives are harder to produce and will keep their value longer, so, from an investment perspective, they are the better investment.
BUT...don't let that convince you to buy a recessive mutation you like less than a co-dominant one...work with what you like, and it'll all pay off in the end.
Re: Bp Investment....what To Choose
Hey ,
Iv had this problem too , my bit of advice to give you is..GO WITH WHAT YOU LIKE! :D
I think in every collection you need normal female's no doubt about that!..they are good for the co-dom and dominant stuff..as when a co-dom / dominant is bred with a normal you 'should' get 50% morph 50% normal..but it dont always work like that
With getting a morph , again go with what you like..spider's arnt too expensive..so say you pick up a nice male spider and you have you some normals female's..you breed the spider male to the female's..you will make some spiders and normals.. :D then you could get a pastel female ( i like lemons )..grown her up..and breed the female pastel to the spider and get some bee's  .. or you could do it the other way around and get a lemon pastel male..and spider female..in the end its what you like
So if you have them two morphs ( pastel , spider )..you have the chance of pastel's..spider's..bee's..normal's..4 type of ball pythons there :D
Im starting to get into getting some morphs and to start with im going with co-dom - dominant stuff..of course i will get into recessive..but with me i love pastel's and spider's..so thats what im getting :D
Basicly..its hard to answer your question because at the end of the day it comes down to what you like and what your plans are
Hope i have been of some help :)
Re: Bp Investment....what To Choose
I would get pastel females for my breeders and your favorite co-dom for a male. Combo morphs are the future and everything looks better with pastel (and spider) in it. Combo's will get you a better return on your money than just making the same morph. At least that's where I am going. Best of luck.
