making him go into humid hide
my guy is starting to shed and i've tried to get the humidity up with no luck i can get it to 80 for like 10 mins or so. i made him a humid hide with a plastic container with a hole in the lid filled with damp paper towels. he just doesn't seem to want to go into it. should i just drop him in there and cover the lid for a while? or will he eventually realize he should go in there?

How do you know he is not going in there at night? Anyway mine do the same thing. I put a humidy hide (with wet paper towels too) when they are going to shed just to help and they all use it differenly. Some will go in as soon as I put it in there cage, others not till they are done shedding.

You said you can get it to 80 but what is your normal humidity?

well i keep a pretty good eye on him and maybe he goes in and i don't see him, i guess i just kind of expect him to stay in there for long periods of time.

my normal humidity is between 55-65

temps set at 92-93 with a tstat and 80-83 on cool side with rheostat.

do you put the humid hide in there only when they start to shed?

Yes only when they shed...My humidity is about 60% all the time so they only get the box when they are about to shed. Like I said some use it some don't. Most of mine shed fine with/without it just offering more comfort for those that want it.

Bad sheds are easy to fix so I would just wait and see how he does and then next time you will know if you need to do more/less for him.
