A couple of questions...first what is your humidity? Where are you measuring these temps at?(what location in the tank)?

Now a thought...have you checked for mites or ticks? Constantly sitting in their water is sometimes a sign of bugs.

Another thought, and why I asked about where you are measuring your temps, is that your HOT side is too hot in actuality and he is trying to cool off.

Evan, welcome to BPNet! A seven degree heat fluctuation on the cool side is a fair bit really and 73 is a bit chancy for your snake. Perhaps if you described your enclosure setup, hides provided, temp and humidity monitoring, that sort of thing we could give some suggestions to help you stabilize things.

BP rarely soak so if yours does it can be due to several things such as mites, overfeeding, insecurity, temperature issues...

To me it seems like there are couple of issues.

If your BP does not have any mites, my guess from the pics you posted would be that he is using his water bowl instead of his hides because they do not provide enough security.

Log hides make poor hides and your clay pot is not ideal either.

Ideal hides need to be tight so your BP can snug in, with all sides touching you BP's body. Also need to be identical so your BP does not chose security over thermo-regulation.

Here is my favorite type of hide http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p.../CUBBYHOLE.jpg but you can also make some yourself out of plastic bowls.

This is how an ideal hide should fit your BP, it was posted recently by Ed (Freakie_frog) http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...3&page=1&pp=10

    One more thing

Temps on the cool side should be 80-84 and in no case fall under 75 as it will increase the risk of RI

Nice little setup. I think 90 degrees is a little pushing it. Its ight but you can bring there hotspot to atleast 86-84 cool spot around 83-79
