Am I feeding the right amount
I am not new to reptiles i had an iguana for 11 years this last winter a year after my iguana died i decieded that a snake would make a good pet and after much research i decied a ball python would make a good first snake after reading many care sheets and websites on ball pythons i still dont know how much i chould be feeding my ball python i got him/her in december and i started feeding 1 pinkie every 7 days then the local pet store ran out of pinkies and i thought that a fuzzy looked to big so after a about 4 days thye finaly got more pinkies and i decied i would try to feed 2 pinkies so i put them in there and she gobbled em right up last few weaks ive been feeding 2 pinkies each time and she eats em both every time some websited discourage feeding more then one item at a time my ball python is approxamatly 2 feet in length at least thats hom long the shed was from 2 days ago i know im doing everthing else right just not sure on the quantity of food i should be giveing :sabduel:
Re: Am I feeding the right amount
Balls are born able to eat adult mice.
Feed it some weanlin rats.
Re: Am I feeding the right amount
Are you speaking of pinky MICE or RATS? if mice then you are feeding far too little. If rats then you should probably bump up to rat fuzzies or bigger.
Even rat pinkies are too small for a hatchling BP. 2 rat pinkies is possibly a decent meal for a newly hatched Ball Python.
Re: Am I feeding the right amount
As someone else asked - pinky mice or pinky rats? Makes a huge difference.
When mine were close to hatchling size, they were eating a mouse hopper a week, and then after a few weeks bumped them up to small mice, and gradually up to medium/large adult mice.
I can remember being nervous about going up in size with my first ball python, each time, so I can understand your hesitation, but if he's otherwise healthy and eating for you each week, there's no reason not to try him with either a small adult mouse or a small rat pup each week.
