Larger Prey For Boa.

My 7 month old boa has been eating adult mice for a month know and he has grown 4in and gained 150 grams.(30in 325 grams) And it seems that he is geting hunger every 4 days. But the mouse still leaves buldge in his stomach.

So my question is should i step up to rats and what size rat????

Also does 30in and 325grams sound good for a 7 month lod boa??(columbian)

That sounds about right. My male BCI weighed 400 grams at 7 months, but he's a little porker.

I'd get him on rats now if you could as he will soon outgrow mice. Weaned rats should be fine for him (40-50 grams).

Boas go through a "growth spurt" around 6 months to 14 months or so. They will eat like pigs, if you let them. All the boas I have were only on mice before I got them. A boa outgrows mice quick and could easily be on rats their whole life. Mice always seem to digest a lot faster than rats do, so it makes perfect sense to me for him to be hungry after a few days. Try the rats and see how your luck goes. A good rule of thumb is to feed your boa,especially when it's younger, a day after it poops.

I feed my boa two gerbils (depending on the size), because my 10 1/2 month old boa is a bit nippy if i give him just 1. Like hunrgy, nippy and just all around seems hungry by the way he acts, so i think you should upgrade to rats. I would but my local petstore doesnt stock feeder rats or any rats period. Rats are a good food to get them used to at a fairly young age because they'll be eating them when they're grown up anyways.
