    Switched to cypress tonight
I bought a couple bags of cypress tonight because a friend swears its the best, ive been using newspaper for years.

Just wondering what you guys think about it?
It seems sharp, is there any chance of it penetrating a snake?

Also ive seen someone threads saying it dries out quickly, is there a fix for that?

Works great for me. Doesn't dry up easily. I will mist maybe once every three days.

What I like best about it is it holds moisture well and the snakes shed out in one piece. if it dries up, just add a cup of water to it every now and then. :)

Ugh, I will never go back to loose substrate again. I switched all of mine over to newspaper, because I like the ease of cleaning the entire enclosure completely each and every time they defecate.

I used aspen before, but spot cleaning when they defecated didn't seem clean enough for me. That, and I hated having to pull out the vacuum all the time to pick up stray pieces of substrate.

Cypress never had any appeal to me, for some reason.

I've still had perfect sheds with newspaper, perfect humidity, and best of all, I KNOW it's clean! :D

I bet you'll switch back to newspaper in a few months time if you're as obessive about clean as I am! LOL

I tried cypress once and had all sorts of issues with humidity control (pushed it off the charts). But it does look nice.

I am now using Aspen without the issues...but everyone's setup is unique.

    Good Luck.

I've been thinking about making the switch to cypress. My BP would benefit from the added humidity and I'll be getting a GTP in a few months which would need the humidity boost. I'm on aspen now, which has been alright, but I have to mist several times a day to keep the humidity up. :)

Oh by the way, I love the snake in pic #2's water bowl. :D

Thanks, they all have those water bowls, red, blue and green from target, $1 a peice and they are untipable, although with this cypress, one burrowed underneath and almost tipped it.

I have used aspen, but it molds too quickly. I did like newspaper and got whole sheds each time, but i wanted to try something new.
