    Rat scent?
Does anyone know if the rat thery works where you take a mice and rub it on a rat to get the rat scent on the mice so that you can get your ball python to change over to eatting mice instead of rat pupps so it will be easier to get food for him? I have herd of this but do not know if it is true and if it works so has anyone tried it?

Scenting one type of prey with another type is a common method used to get a snake to eat something different than it is used to. It often works...but sometimes it doesn't. Always worth a try, I think.

Sometimes it works, however I have one girl that does not get fooled, she won't have anything to do with a rat... period!

And bottom line, it does matter, what matter is to feed whatever works for your BP.

I've never tried it but I read that using bedding from the rodents they like and putting it in tub before new rodent helps fool them. All mine are rat eaters :)

when i got my spider (arrie) she would only take mice. all my other snakes eat rats and that's what i breed so i wanted to switch her over if she would do it fairly easily. so i got some mice and let them stink up their enclosure nice and good. then i scooped out some of the dirty mouse bedding into a separate container and put a rat in it for about 15-30 minutes while i fed the other snakes. she ate the first rat i offered to her that way (she never took them before, when i didn't scent them first). it only took about 4 scented rats before she started taking them without me scenting them first.

You need to add "yes and it might work" to your pole. As others have pointed out most people have heard about "scenting" but results vary. For some snakes it works, others could care less.

If you have a tricky eater or need to make a change this is just one of several methods to try to get them to switch over.

I personally have never tried mice to rats (or vice-versa) but I have done it live to F/T and it worked for 1 but not another.

I agree with lord jackel on the "might work" option.

:giggle: The person making the poll has the option to select "multiple choices." And in this case, it would appear that option is turned on. :D

Sorry If I do not have the poll done right I am new to all of this and learnimg as I go. But I did try the rat scent on the mice and it did not work for me my ball python was raised on rats so he will not change over so I had to order forzen rat pupps for him. He is 6 months old and 22 inches long so maybe with him being young he mite one day change over who knows. Thanks for everyones input on this subject and your votes. Your help has been greatful.

    Thanks again
