The new most useless guitar!
The Ibanez 8-string! "Hi, I suck at guitar and I'm talentless and wasn't even able to be heavy on a 7-string." This is a joke to me. I hate 7-strings let alone 8?! You're heavy, or you're not.

Hm.. not sure of the point of that. I'll take either 6 or 12 thank you.
Re: The new most useless guitar!
Yeah, that is overkill there.. :/
Re: The new most useless guitar!
Pffff 8 strings. Baby Jesus weeps for the EMGs wasted upon it. :tears:
I have a friend who prefers 7s over 6s. He can play too, so I guess that's valid enough.
Re: The new most useless guitar!
Why Do people use 7 strings.. is it becuse they can't get the knack of tuning down a guitar?

I offers a different octive range without having to move the hand down the neck.
Re: The new most useless guitar!
My local shop should be getting one of those 8 strings pretty soon. I personally think it is too much. 99% of the people who will buy that have no business with a guitar with more than 6 strings. Actually, for that matter, no business owning a guitar at all!!

Re: The new most useless guitar!
Maybe they'd rather stay in a smaller area on the neck as opposed to 6 and 7 string. Could make for heavier/faster/more variable solos?

It's pretty hard to be fast on an 8-string neck. Plus, even a 7 string is cheating unless youre a guitar virtuoso like Steve Vai or Van Epps who created the 7-string for jazz use. But most "metal bands" and I use the word "metal" lightly just don't know how to be heavy on a 6 string tuned to E or E#. You can do a regular 3 chords progression on a 7-string or 8-string and no matter what, you'll *sound* heavy ;) Being heavy and sounding heavy are two different things.
An 8-string is tuned to G# B E A D G B E. Tuning to G# will be the most muddied up, terrible sound in the world. Also, imagine how many blow speakers there will be? Haha Celestion will be making lotsa money off this pointlessness. Either way look at the heaviest riffs in the world. All done on 6-string's and either tuned to E or E#.
