UTH temps.

Hi, recently replaced my thermometers in my BP's tank with a digital one and found out my temps were way off (like 75 at the hot end :S) so i was wondering why they arent hot enough and i think the problem is my uth,i dont have a thermostat and the uth isnt hot enough,if i got a thermostat would that increase my temps of my uth? sorry if i sound like an idiot,ive always thought my snake was perfectly looked after until today when i found his temps were worng (he has eaten every week since i got him approx 10 months ago. btw so i figure he isnt too stressed)

Well...you should have a thermostat no matter what. But it might be your UTH isn't working properly. If it's plugged directly into the wall, it's running at full power--so it should be getting as hot as it's going to get. A thermostat is a way to control how hot the UTH is allowed to get--it basically keeps it from getting TOO hot.

I'd definitely get a thermostat, and (if the UTH really is failing to heat up properly), a new UTH.

Where are you placing the probe for your thermometer?

it isnt plugged directly into the wall:S it plugged into oneof those thing with loads of plugs(extension cord thing) could that be the problem?

oh and btw,its a 30w uth is that a problem?

Try taping the probe to the bottom of the enclosure on the inside under the substrate. This will give an accurate reading for the belly temps. Depending on your substrate, the snake can either sit on top if its warm or, if its like mine, will just move the substrate out of the way and sit right on the bottom of the tub.

Tape inside the tub is not really a good idea. Your Bp may get rapped up in the tape. Try taping in the UTH under the tub or use the hide to hold it down.

If you tape to the bottom of the tub, the snake is not going to be able to get tangled in anything. It is stuck securely to the bottom.

Just a precaution. Heat and humidity can cause the tape not to adhere and come undone. Causing the snake to get caught. It's happened.
