my BP just wants to kiss the rat....?
I have a 4 foot female (just found out for sure last week)
and she normally eats every 7 - 10 days. it has been 8 days and she seemed to be 'hunting' yesterday. I have always fed her live small/med rats and she eats without a problem. But after the last shed, she retained her eyecaps. I had those removed by a vet last thursday. So today I dropped in the rat, and it seemed as if she was going to eat (yawned, watched it) but just followed it. she hasnt struck at it at all. she is just going up to it and maybe licking it?

what should i do? i know not to leave the rat in there too long, but if she is showing interest in it (but not eating it) should it be in there more than 5 minutes?

    what should i do?

Try dangling him. That might work.

You may leave it there a bit longer as long as you remain by her side to monitor the feeding. I would say that she is not interested in it if a half hour goes by and nothing happens.

I wouldn't recommend dangling a live rat - either you or the snake will surely be bitten! :)
