how to breed first morph

how do morph's come around?

is it just a small % ?

inbreading or what?

maybe temp changes pre hatching?


i joined this forum with the intrest of breeding... but perhaps i should wait and learn more general info prior too

dont worry i also have much to learn about breeding

what i do know is "designer morphs" come by breeding two other morphs (which can also be designer).

for example, a spider and a pastel=bumblebee

inbreeding is an option but im not exactly sure how morphs came to be.

perhaps an albino came along and a mad scientist thought it would be cool to make millions of them:P

Are you asking how they were found to begin with? Some were found in the wild as is. Others just look like something special so they are bred and then bred back to the offspring to find out.

yeah i just want to know how they start..

i understand the whole dominent and ressive ideas...

but it would seem that say... a pie bald is not a jean (sp?) but a genetic mess up =-P

no one really knows where it comes from, but we sure to appreciate the beauty

morphs are caused by a genetic mutation in a gene. i dont know exactly how the mutation occurs but selective breeding proves out what type of gene the animal has.

well if that's the case then all balls have the jean it's just a matter or breeding until that ressive jean (SP?) come out...

It's a minor mutation type gene. A pied ball python is no more inbred than an albino or any other one. Just like some people has ice white blond hair, and some have red hair. Some are recessive genes, and it just so happened to appear when bred to a like gened snake.
Not all snakes have the recessive gene for albino or pied. If they don't carry it, no matter how many times you breed them, they still won't pop out the morph.
I think most morphs were brought over from Africa(that is, I've never heard of one that wasn't seen in wild stock first, but I could be wrong). The original morph would be bred to see if it is recessive or co-dominant etc.

Basically, someone finds one in the wild that looks out of the ordinary. Then they breed it to normals. If there are more, usually we assume it is a DOm/Co DOm trait. If there are no more of it, you breed to offspring in hopes of it being recesive. Then, if it is recessive, some inbreeding usually is dne because, to our knowledge at least, the gene only is present in that one "family".
