I use news paper also. Depending on the set up you can just mist the paper and change it when they shed or do like I do and put some aspen under their hide and just mist that. I gives then the option to move to a dry place if they wish but the hide hold the humidity great.

    hope this helps

how about reptile carpet? The vet recommended that I switch to it, but I've worried about it getting and staying wet in there!

I'd argue that newspaper is cleaner than carpet just based on the sole fact that newspaper is thrown away each time it is soiled and replaced with new, clean paper. Carpet would need to be washed and sterilized every time it is soiled. Just a lot of extra effort, with the only real benefits being aesthetic ones.

Water tends to pool on the floor of the tank below the carpet, as opposed to newspaper that absorbs it.

I did get 2 carpets and planned to swap and sterilize weekly... but I'll be on the look out for the water pools! You'd think they'd make the carpet knowing that it was going to get wet!

    thanks for your input!

Carpet also makes it harder to maintain humidity.

I usually mist the sides, and top of the enclosure, and the tops of the hides. it's ok to mist the newspaper if you want, just don't soak it :)

I also mist a little several times a day rather than a bunch all at once.
