    Reptile Hobby Related Debt
A post in another thread got me thinking about this subject, so I wanted to do a poll and get everyone's opinions. It will be not be public, so no names will be shown unless you want to make a comment.

I have bought reptile related things 'here and there' using credit cards, but never to the point that I couldn't pay off the charge in a month or two. In most cases, I charged because I was too lazy to get to the bank and get the cash ;)

Yes I do use my credit card however it is used for security purposes only, and paid off entirely each month, so no, no debt here either.

    no debt!

hobbies and entertainment must be paid for up front in our household, and are the first to get nixed if money gets tight.

No debt. All my animals and caging is paid for.

I just save up or trade for what I want.
No point in going into debt to get something.

I saved up enough to pay for all of my snakes, but I spent most of my savings that I hadn't needed to touch in years. As soon as I had all my new snakes I started having all kinds of unforseen problems that has left me $4k in debt and without a vehicle. Now my heat went out last night in my condo, so I'm off to HD for a few space heaters before my snakes start cycling. 2007's looking like it's going to be a hell of a year. :slamhead:

ouch. well let's just say that in the past i certainly racked up some reptile related debt. i don't really know how much nor do i want to know.

there was a period of about a year when i used credit cards for a lot and just kinda let it get out of control. STUPID thing to do. it is all paid off now and i cancelled all of the credit cards in order to avoid letting myself get into trouble again. it seems so simple--just don't charge stuff, but once you start it is just SO easy to keep doing it.

I'm in some pretty bad debt right now, but I don't think there is any college kid out there paying his own way that isn't. Most of my supplies have gone on credit cards, my last two snakes I purchased in cash. Its definitely temping to buy a snake everytime I free up some room on those cards. I need to get my debt under control, has gotten a little bad but hey, pay on time and you're in the clear.

I've made a vow to myself not to breed until they're all paid off. I've got my collection up in size, and a few females to raise up into breeding size so I have more than enough to keep me busy until then.

So far I have only purchased what I can pay for in full, I've never even done a payment plan. My fall-back for regulated spending is my wife :) I don't have all that many actual morphs: 1.1 YB 1.0 pastel are the only "visuals" the rest are hets or normals. I've come to the conclusion that I can be content with what I have and take one step at a time even if it takes a few years with some hets to get what I want.
