my 55 gal setup

well i guess you can say bp's live up to their names as "escape" artists. she tries but unsuccessful. i got this 55gal tank for a good deal. i sanitized it and figured id see if she likes it. been sitting here for 2 hours watching her just roam around and check it out. i managed to get temps to 92/82/56% humidity. 2 heat pads and 1 night light 75w. plus my lids are glass that are weighed down and as far as her oxygen i have a tank humidifier that i purchased that filters fresh air in there and humidity. well heres some pics of her tank.

Thats a nice setup, im getting a 55gal tank myself in a couple days, i have to rearange my whole room to fit it though lol.
What are you useing for the ground substrate?, do you feed him in the tank? i used to use aspen, but since i feed my guy in the tank i noticed it wasnt such a good idea, so untill i get that ecoearth im useing papertowels. I see people useing newspapers but i could never do that, with all the chemicals for one, and i couldnt let a snake roam around on it, i mean look what they do to your ifngers just by turning pages.

Looks like you're feeding the wrong kind of mouse to your snake there.

im using aspen for subtrate. i used cypress and ive used coconut. aspen is easier to me. cocnut is just too "sand" like and cypress is good. but with my tank it has glass lids with a little piece of plastic on back end of lid with holes in it. honestly with aspen i havent had to spray inside tank. some people say its hard to keep humidity in there but i disagree. i live in texas.. el paso which is desert and a dry climate. i spray it once every 4 days and humidity varys from 50 to 60. im not excessively spraying like some. and temps are correct i have 2 uth. 1 big one on hot side on a thermostat and a small one on cool side. the small one only reach's 80F i think its because its a uth pad made to be warm but not HOT. i agree i dont use newspaper feel no need and it may be easy to clean but whats not easy about getting a bag and picking up my bp's waste. spot cleaning is easy to me. guess its just what type of person you are.
i dont feed her in the tank. i have a big tupperware container with a locking lid. funny thing is she knows its feeding time in there. soon as i put her in there she moves like crazy then goes to corner and balls up. then i moved lid to where the opening is on opposite side of her. i have a coffee can that she knows means food. i put the rat in the coffee can and shake it up real nice to get it "dazed". i place the can in the opening so she can smell it. she slithers right up to it and can tell shes in "hunting" mode. then i slide the lid again to the side the can was in and i take the can out. then i open the other side and drop the rat in there. she automatically turns around once i close the side of the lid she's at and the can was at. she eats it and i leave her for about 1 hour. i then pick her up after time is up, i hold her by the neck and i place on hand gently underneath her belly where the rats at and place her in the tank. she has never regurged or anything. i put her in her tank and she slithers to her hot hide and i wait the 48 hours and then i hold her :)
some say dont use a 55gal but ive noticed she is more active. isnt stressed and she likes to stretch out in there. humidity and temps are not a problem to maintain. guess its just your bp attitude. i guess just watch their movement and attitude while in tank for a few days to see if they like the tank.

I'm so lost on the mouse bit, but your tank looks great! You just gave me an idea though on how to make a completely sealed lid and be able to provide air. Has anyone ever used a fish pump for the air rocks to pump air into a sealed tank?

Actually, newspapers these days are printed with vegetable ink and are completely non-toxic. I agree with the ink rubbing off though, which is why when I used newsprint I went to the local newspaper and got the end of newprint rolls. They are unprinted and all you have to do is cut them to your tank size. Works great if you have a LOT of snakes to take care of.

Look at the bottom left of the second picture. There is a computer mouse there.....hence the "long tail and kinda hard" joke :)

hehe yes mouse joke is cause while working on my computer i set the mouse of the computer on the table. its a co-workers computer that has a bug on it so im clearing it up and gonna fix all the problems and give it back.
as far as the newspaper yes its safe as said cause vegetable ink or possibly could use unprinted.

for using the air pump, yes it does work. actually i have a in the tank humidifier by tropicare. i had to disconnect it due to the closed glass lid that hold humidity in perfect so no need. so what i did is what you said. i took the air rock off and hooked the air pump directly to the rock which send fresh air in there. they sell bubble stones that are like 5 to 12 inch's for aquariums. i just set that under the subtrate and it sends fresh air in the tank :P try it out :) works for me
