Giving ball Pythons Shots.

I will be treating my snake for an RI over the next month. I have 10 shots to give her every third day. The vet showed me how to do it and let me do the first shot. Seems easy enough but that was with two people. Do any of you have any experience giving a snake a shot without someone helping you hold the snake. pointers welcome

How big is your snake? It is much easier with someone helping, but you can do it by yourself if you have too

shes about 32-33 inches and about 600 grams.

Well I'm in the same boat right now, with my husband going underway shortly I will be giving them to Cheese myself so I've been doing so already. It's hard to describe but I take him out, set him on the shelf in the q-room hold his rear half under my left arm, and control his neck with my left hand while giving the shot with my right. I realize that might not make sense but I hope it helps.

I'm not sure where you have to give the shot, but if it's in the back part you can use a clear plastic tube a little shorter than your snake is long, and slightly larger around.

They seem pretty expensive there, but I'm sure you could find something that would work. Heck it probably wouldn't even have to be clear and not too long. It will give you more control over the snake. Just put a cap on one end of it. I would drill some small holes in the bottom for breathing.

Maybe you can run with this idea and come up with something useful.

The injection is more like 2/3 the towards the top, but even so you really only have to cover up her head and neck, I could keep her back end still. Entropy's idea seems to make a lot of sense as long as the snake is fairly calm which she usually is. Im just afraid of having the needle in and her freaking out suddenly and hurting her in any way.

I have an old gravel vac laying around I think il give a try. after cleaning it well of course.

I'm and watching my BP closley these next few days as I suspect he has an RI. May I ask how much your vet bill was?

I have a very nervous BP and when I need to give her shot myself(always) I sit down put her body in between my legs, hold her head with one hand(left for me) and give her the shot with my right hand. You want the shot to be on the front third of her body (towards head). I have given several snakes shots but the rowdy ones require arms and legs. :cool:
