feeding question

i have never seen this.. my little guy is acting like hes fighting off the mouse instead of trying to kill it. he struck and struck and stuck but never locked wrapped up. the mouse is the same size as usual so i dont think its too big. i was just wondering if anyone has experienced this.

It happens from time to time. Most likely the snake is not interested in eating and sees the mouse more as an invader than as food. Could be he's about to go into the shed process (or is already in it?) or some other incident has made him decide he's not hungry this week.


Obviously, remove the rodent. And wait a full week before trying to feed again. If the snake IS in shed and has not completed it by the time that week is up, I would then wait until the following week as well. Won't hurt the snake at all to miss a meal or two.

(This is written assuming that you've had the snake for long enough to have established a regular feeding routine and all your husbandry is on par. ;) )

ive had him over a month he hasnt shed since ive had him but he has aten regularly and the husbandry is on par so your prob right bout the shed. the only thing is he doesnt look as if hes going into shed but well see i guess. thanks

I had that happen with mine and came to find that he was just not ready to eat. In 2 days he was all over the same mouse. I would just wait a couple of days and try again. Hang in there.

Maybe he is tired of easy kills and is trying to have some fun out of his meals? :D

HAHA he was just messin with the mouse for a pretty long time. i started feeling bad for the little guy so i just fed him to one of my larger snakes for a little mid week snack so he didnt have to suffer anymore lol the mouse prob took about 20 strikes.

at first i just thought the snake was dumb cuz it usually takes him a few stikes to wrap up anyway... hes only a few months old.
