    Rat Snake mouth problem
Hello everyone! This is my first post here so let me explain a little. I am a wildlife rehabilitator in CT who works at a nature center. We house approximately 30 animals, the majority of whom are permanently injured. We have a black rat snake who was tangled and cut up in a fence some years ago. He lives with us and has been thriving quite well except for one problem that keeps coming up: his mouth is crusty and dry on the outside edges. I have seen him drinking quite often and we give fresh water and mist the cage daily. It was suggested by a vet to put "lubricating jelly" on its mouth, which helps a little, but not with any long term results. Anyone every run across this with their captive snakes?

    Thank you!
