    People are reallly dumb sometimes.
I work at Petland, and today I came in to work to discover a lady had left her number for me with the cashier. You see, apparently, I'm the only person in the whole store that will pick up a snake, much less own one. The lady had a snake that she was giving away for free, cage and all. So I called the lady back, and sent my husband to go pick up what we had now discovered was a red tailed boa. When he got there, the snake had no water in his bowl and no heat source whatsoever. When he got to talking to her, we soon realized that things were way worse. The woman's husband was the owner of the snake and he had moved up to NYC for a job, where she was soon to follow. Wellll, she was afraid of snakes, and when he left two months ago, he had a 3 year old RTB and a 3 year old BP. She was feeding them one small rat once a month. Last month, she was feeding the BP and the rat bit the snake and then they started fighting. Well, her being afraid of the snakes, did nothing. The rat proceeded to kill the BP. To make matters worse, she had the snakes in the same cage, but luckily since the RTB was so starved, he ate both of the rats. However, when my husband got there, the BP corpse was still in the tank with the RTB. Needless to say, the RTB is now at home with us, and is going to get a proper meal and cage setup. People are sure are dumb.

    :( :(

Man thats really sad....glad to see the RTB has a new proper home. Can you post some pics? I was supposed to get a RTB instead of a BP but turns out the RTB my buddy, who owns a pet store, thought was pregnant, ending up spitting up a beach towl it had eat when the previous owner had it, then soon died after that. So he gave me a BP instead. Really curious to see what a RTB looks like. Grats again on rescuing a helpless animal and getting a new addition to the family.

My batteries on my camera are actually dead, but I will be making my husband get some batteries in the morning, so i'll post some in the evening. He/she is a very big snake though, who i've now named Sammy (since it can be a girl or boy name). I'd say it's around 5 feet long, I may be off a little. Unfortunately, the woman who previously had the snake, fed it it's monthly rat yesterday, so I have not been able to pick it up yet. But fair warning, tomorrow there will def be pics, cuz i'm itching to hold it.

Wow, that is sad. But i put full responsibility on the Husband, he should of found a proper home for it before he left, I would imagine he knew his wife was terrified of snakes. As sad as it really is, can you blame her? I mean when people are scared of snakes, they are REALLY scared of snakes. However she shouldn't of waited so long to get rid of it, to someone who would take proper care of it. But yeah, people can be extremely stupid.

I blame him as well, but also, their kids liked the snakes, but when she was around she wouldn't let them touch the snakes. She thought they would get bit, even tho she admitted that they had never been bitten nor the husband when he was living there. So hopefully, she'll be a sweetie. I just wish I could have saved the BP as well.

Yeah, when Ashley called me and told me to go and pick up the snake and I got there I was horrified. When I showed up at the store to get the info, the lady at the front desk said she thought the lady said that they took care of the snake and the kids had just "outgrown" the snake and didn't want it anymore. When I got there and saw the condition I was horrified. My only thought was I wanted to get this snake out of there. As soon as I got home, I took her (dont know what sex, I just have a habbit of assuming a sex on them until they're sexed, of which I'm usually wrong lol) out, removed everything from the cage, sanitized the cage and water dish, and put her back in there, giving her a heat source. She's gonna have to wait to get a thermometer because until one of us gets our next pay check we're short on cash, but I've been checking the temps regularly and it hasn't been a problem anyway.

Also, I didn't want to hold her more than needed, but when I was taking her out to clean the cage, and when I was putting her back in she seemed perfectly sweet, didn't strike or hiss at all. Hopefully she's just as sweet after she's warm and has a meal or two in her.

As ashley said our digital camera is out of batteries (I knew we needed the rechargeable ones!) but as soon as we get some more we'll get some pictures up!
