how do you get double hets

I don't understand how you get double hets or triple hets. After reading this page: http://www.newenglandreptile.com/gen...recessive.html :I am still baffled as to how this works, lol. Help me please! :)

double het=visual recessive x visual recessive

albino x axanthic=double het for albino and axanthic (snowball)

triple=visual double recessive x visual recessive

albino pied x axanthic (100% het for albino, pied, and axanthic)

thats what ive been hearing but i dont understand how the genetics do this lol

The alleles for Albino and Axanthic (or any other recessive trait) are on different loci. Therefore, when you breed to Homozygous recessive animals together, they each pass on one allele to the offspring. This will make each offspring Heterozygous for each trait. Hope that helps.

If I breed a het pied and a het albino, 1/4 would be het for both? but a spider and pastel will make a bumblebee which looks entirely different.

because spider and pastel traits both only require one mutated gene whereas albino and axanthic and others require 2.

A Pastel and a Spider are visual Hets. Meaning they carry one allele for their respective genes. When breeding a Pastel and Spider together, you have a 1/4 chance of getting a Double Het(i.e. Bumblebee). If everyone would remember that dominant gened animals are still Hets until there are two allels present at the locus, then it would make understanding genetics very easy. The Pastel to Spider is any easy way to visually see the outcome of a Het to Het breeding. Hope that helps.
