    Uth
    Hello!

I am going to our local rep/herp pet store today... I am planning on replacing the heat/light lamp in Kaa's tank with a UTH (upon suggestions of other ball owners).

What are y'alls recommendations on UTHs?

    Thanks!

I was happy with my exo-terras before switching to flexwatt

heat pads will create a warm surface area but ambient temps will still need to be created by another source of heat.

keep the room/closet warm for the ambient (if you can afford an 80*+ room) or a CHE/lamp. But if you use those, you'll need to watch and up the humidity. Heat lamps and CHEs dry the air terribly!

I have a tank that has heat cable that is 85 to 93 but my bedroom is usu. at 78-80* b/c of the six snakes in there. I'm not using lamps right now b/c of the humidity problems. I might go back to them, just so I can decrease the bedroom temp for ME when I have to sleep days.

My other tanks and tubs are all on either flexwatts, exo-terras or the ones made in Scotland (dangit! I can never remember the brand name!  ) with thermostats/dimmers. The only one that has a lamp and a UTH is Oreo, the little Kenyan sand boa.

Well, Kaa is in the bedroom, and we keep our house hot... usually 80... and the bedroom stays hot like that all of the time. Guests hate it, we love it :)

I took the light off today and did the UTH. I covered 3/4ths of the mesh lid with thick plastic wrap. The substrate (coconut fiber - bed-a-beast style, compacted tightly) is very moist, and the humidity is doing good. I now have two hides, one on the warm end, one on the cool... so far so good on the humidity, and I am waiting to see how the UTH does for heat to decide if I need another source.
