Herpstat II thermostat setup, is this good?
Here is how I have this new thermostat setup. I have output 1 running the cool side UTH and the probe placed inside the hide. Output 2 is running the hot side UTH and the probe is in the hide on that side.

For the probes I put the hide on top of it so the snake can't really move it around. The only place for it to move is inside the hide.

Here are some pics. Any problems with this setup?

the only thing i can suggest is to secure the probes to the bottom of the tank so the snake cant move them. thats what i have done and my temps now seem much more stable. hope this helps.

    Hi,

It might also be worth pointing out that the snake lying on the probe can cause problems as at that point you have to heat the whole snake up which means the tank is liable to get too warm.

Just my 2c. And I'm sure some kind person will be along shortly to confirm/deny it. :P

i agree i just got my herpstat and been playing with it and i have noticed (with my old thermostat aswell) that when the snake sits on it or the thermometer the temp drops 3-4 degrees. So my question is i have a tub arriving monday and i think i will place the probe between the tub and flexwatt(outsite the tub) but can someone tell me who uses this method what temp they must set the thermostat to to get 92-94 degrees in nthe tank - i imagine pretty high

I have the probe between the heat tape and the tub. To acheive the 90 degrees I want in the back of the tub, I set the herpstat to 93.5 then verify the tub temps with a temp gun.

so theres only 3 degrees difference between the flexwatt ant the inside off the tub... i would have thought it was more than that... thanks for helping out

I use a Johnson's and have the probe on the inside bottom of tub (on some) and on the outside w/others. I'm only 1-2* difference, but my differential is set at 1* also, so the J's goes off and on more often, but the temps stay more stable.
