these males are fairly high end geckos with very good genetics, however they all unfortunately have floppy tail, thus the discounted prices. they have it as a result of hanging upside down in their enclosures and not because of any nutritional deficiencies, and it will not hinder their ability to breed in any way.

shipping generally runs about $45 for UPS next day air delivery. please view terms and other details on my web site at www.cookreptliles.com.

    thanks! :)

    What is floppy tail?

    Re: crested geckos for sale
floppy tail syndrome (or fts) is when the vertebrae at the base of the spine that supports the tail become weak causing the tail to "flop" either to the side or toward the gecko's spine when it hangs upside down. this can happen because the gecko isn't getting enough calcium in its diet or because the gecko hangs upside down or face down a lot and the weight of its tail weakens the vertebrae.

it is actually quite common among crested geckos and although it doesn't really affect their health in any way it looks quite odd to see their tail hang that way when they are in a face downward position. the tail makes up 10% of the weight of a crested, so when you think about it, that's a lot of weight for that one vertebrae to support if the gecko hangs upside down a lot of the time. because in the wild cresteds always drop their tails it is thought that this vertebrae may have never strengthened or evolved over time to be able to support a tail.

So in a crested that has fts, is the tail still able to wrap around things?

yep, the tail remains fully functional regardless of fts.

the middle one is cool--i held back his sister who is pretty much identical to him. :) it's hard to tell in the photo but his dorsal area is lighter and more yellow than the rest of him when he is fired up. it's almost like he is a bicolor yellow/orange or something. shoot me a private message if you want to try to "work something out." :P
