    Shed Question
    Hello all,

I'm pretty sure my newly aquired BPs are starting the shed cycle as both their bellies are turning pink and their skin is not as shinny as it was last week.

My question is this. Is it normal for two snakes kept in the same cage to shed together? Just wondering.

    Thanks,

    Re: Shed Question
Snakes shed depending on their rate of growth. So if the growth rate is the same then I suppose the snakes would shed at the same time.

Also, it is not in the best interest of the animals to house two snakes in the same enclosure. I would suggest getting seperate enclosures for each snake.

    THanks,

I guess it would make sense that they would shed together as I got them both at the same time and have been feeding them together....(not in the same tank, but when I feed one I feed the other in separate containers)

Also thanks for the advice on keeping them in the same cage/tank. I plan on getting them their own tanks, but the Pet store guy said I could keep them in there for now since they are still small (120 grams) and when they get bigger get them either their own tank or a larger one for both.

I take it no matter what I should get them their own tank. RIght? Just want to make sure I am doing the right thing.

    Again thanks for the reply

    Welcome!

Yes you should defiantly get them each their own home, if you look around int he GB husbandry area you'll see a huge amount of posts addressing the reasons behind this. I'm too sick to go try and find the one i read last night(flue i think :( ), but it was a great thread.

The advice I would give you, be very careful taking pet shop advice. I'm not saying that there arnt good shops out there with people who truly know and understand the animals they are giving advice about, but there is also alto of fodder. They might be out of UT H's so they tell you, "Hey just get a 150 watt light instead for your 20L." (True Story)

So get advice, but check, double check, and triple check that advice.

    Happy Herping!

Thanks alot all! I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'll make that my project for this week, to get another tank/cage for them.

Since I'm already at it should I just get one that will house an adult python now, or just another 10 gallon tank. I guess my question is how much longer will it be before these snakes outgrow their 10 gallon tanks? Months, weeks? I think I mentioned it before but they both weigh approx 120 grams.

ps...I hope you feel better, I'm trying to get over a cold as well.
