poor kittie
ok, so back in november last year, my monster kittie somehow broke his leg. snapped the ball of the femur right off the rest of the bone.
so surgery and now he seems to be doing really well.
anyone ever dealt with this kind of injury before?
he's doing real good for not having a hip joint anymore.
thing is, he gets cranky REAL easy sometimes, and he doesnt give a warning meow or anyhting so we know to put him down/let him get down, so its like a major possessed look in his eyes and then a bite and then jumps down
dont know what to do in order to get him to give a bit more of a warning sign before he bites and I dont know how? (He was doing this before his surgery, so thats not the cause)
*sigh*
he doesnt bite HARD but he bites my kids also, and my youngest seems to catch the brunt of it
any suggestions?

Re: poor kittie
How long ago was the surgery? What kind of repair did they do? Was he doing this before the injury occurred? How long has the behavior going on relative to the other events?
These things can be horribly painful, and even a slight motion could be setting him off. You should definitely talk to your vet and see if they can suggest anything. Perhaps further evaluation and/or pain medication is in order.
I don't think you can "train" him to give more warning...Cats don't work like that.

Poor kitty; I would just advise everyone to be on their toes around him, and let them know that it is not his fault or choice to be mean

Re: poor kittie
when a cat has been thru a major trauma... it takes time and patience to assist him to get over it.
our kitten broke her leg just over a year ago jumping off the roof, her leg got caught in the slats of the fence. :( had to have a cast on it for 8 weeks. wow, it was horrid.
another one of our cats came home around 6 years ago with it's tail dislocated. our vet had to amputate it... she went thru a terrible time of venting on us... and on my bed :pee:
but i gave her time and space... and lots of love and she came through it and became a wonderful cat again.
