Tank Set-ups
Hi!
I was hoping to see examples of glass tank set ups...the more 'naturally aesthetic' the better. I just ordered some new cave-type hides (vs. black plastic) and matching water dishes (vs ceramic dog bowl), and will be reorganizing plants and such soon...I'll likely put up some before and afters.
To tide me over...what does YOUR tank look like??
How the heck do you keep the fake plants in one spot?
Vines/logs...keep them for shedding or toss them for something better?
One big bowl or two on opposite sides?
Just looking for something to inspire/admire!
:)

Well here's an older picture of 1 of my 55gal setups... it has since then changed a little bit. I have added another hide, a dog bowl for water dish (doesn't knockover like the one in the picture lol), a flukers 6ft vine, accurite digi thermometer and another log... It's alot of stuff to clean when it comes time to clean everything...but to me it's worth it for the way that it looks.

As far as keeping fake plants in one spot good luck! ;) they're going to slither all over them and the plants/vines are going to move from their original place...
For shedding I don't take anything out of the tank...The logs actually help give the snake something to rub on when shedding it's skin so those you would definetly want to keep in. I also only use one large water dish incase my snakes want to soak they have the option.
As for more pictures of natural looking setups...Genive has some great looking setups...maybe she will chime in and post a couple pics of her viv's. :)

Re: Tank Set-ups
Yeah, no I want to keep one or the other (1/2 log vs vine type logs)...just not sure if either one is better than the other. Since Osiris doesn't hide in the log anymore, just rests on it sometimes, I figured I'd try something a little less space consuming.
Thanks for the picture! I agree that it's worth the cleaning if it's visually appealing (as long as it's first beneficial to the snake..I'll stay away from the pirate boats and tiki gods ;)...although, those may provide a nice rub!). Especially since my 30 gal breeder is in the living room...

Thanks, I'll try that. I did a search with 'tanks' 'tank set-up' 'glass tank' through member pictures/forums and saw a few (and got tired of clicking), but was wondering if anyone had anything else to show.

Glass Tank Set-ups
Hi!
I was hoping to see (more) examples of glass tank set ups...the more 'naturally aesthetic' the better but I love looking at all!
I just ordered some new cave-type hides (vs. black plastic) and matching water dishes (vs ceramic dog bowl), and will be reorganizing plants and such soon...I'll likely put up some before and afters.

How the heck do you keep the fake plants in one spot?
Vines vs. half logs...which would you keep for shedding? or toss both of them for something better? (I'm replacing the mostly unused 1/2 log hide for big vine chunks)
One big bowl or two on opposite sides? (he's not a soaker in the least ;)
Just looking for something to inspire/admire!
:)
For reference, I have a 30 gal breeder with a top sliding screen (which I hate). My baby Osiris is an adult python, about 3.5-4 feet. He's most laid back about any change, though I may replace one hide only at first to see if he prefers the black plastic boxs over the rock-like new ones.

Re: Tank Set-ups
I think that the BULK of the members her most likely are using tub set-ups, since the snakes thrive so well in them. I gave up my glass tank after my first ball python fasted for 8 months in it. Now that he's in a tub, he eats every week for me.
With a lot of work like Cassandra and Rick, balls can be kept successfully in tanks, but they are very hard (at least they were for me) to get the temps and humidity stable at all times.
Probably why you aren't getting a lot of responses to this request.

I'm sorry to hear about that! All of my Ball's are eating great and haven't given me a problem eating wise at all! I've actually never had a snake that fasted for me ever... And all I've ever used was glass tanks.
I am leaning towards plastic cages for my visual setups and sterilite tubs for the young ones. I like how you can stack boaphiles, visions ect,....and with tubs you can have 20 bp's in the same area you would have 2 55gal's.
Back to the topic of glass setups though some things that can help you out to get the temps and humidity dead on if they aren't already are:
-partially covering your screen top with aluminum foil
-adding a bigger water dish
-using a substrate that holds humidity better (zoo meds eco-earth, shredded coconut husk)
-A good thermometer, like say an accurite @ wal-mart or home depot
Although this doesn't add heat or humidity it will give you an accurate reading that will ensure your reading the "real" temp and humidity that stick-on hygrometers and thermometers won't give you.
-UTH and appropriate wattage Heat Lamp or Ceramic Heat Emitter
That's pretty much how I've ran my glass setups up until recently I have added the use of an accurite and I'm very glad I did. I haven't had any problems. Of course having multiple hides and even some extra branches or logs help with the animals sense of security. Hope this information helps. It's rather basic but it's worked for me! Best of luck! ;)

Yeah, I knew this was a tub-dominated forum, but have seen some neat tank set ups too. Osiris has been in a glass tank for over 2 years now. He only fasted for about a month after the big move to my place (understandable). He's been a wonderful snake and it's really not that hard to keep the temps/humidity fairly stable...winter heat just means the whole family gets to benefit from a humidifier ;)

Re: Tank Set-ups
But still I don't know...I keep my BP in a glass tank right now, and i'm actually in the process of not only switching him/her to a tub, but i'm going to be purchasing a rack for all future investments.
I'll agree with you on the vision and boaphile cages though...very sweet! I'd like to have a room full of those.
