    anyone still have their tonsils?
does anyone still have their tonsils, and if yes, do you know if they still remove them if they get too bad off?

since my last surgery, oct 12 last year, I seem to be having this weird problem with my throat.

its like....like when you swallow and then you can breathe again...only I dont get the automatic breathe again reflex. its cutting off my air till I "blast it" with a big exhale, and then after a time or 2, I can breathe again.

my throat has been sore, sinus problems, and MAJOR snoring, as per my SO.

I'm getting kind of scared cause what if it happens and I cant wake up to fix it?

I do have an appointment with my doc, but its really getting bad daily. I cant get in to see her till thursday...should I brave the ER and have it checked?

    (obviously I'm not sleeping)

I still have mine. I think doctors don't really do tonsil removal anymore... some have come to the conclusion that perhaps we need them for something. I'm sure that some doctors -do- remove them still, but honestly, it sounds like you have a more serious problem....

Sleep apnea or a deviated septum could both cause major snoring and the inability to breathe properly... There could be other causes, too. So it's a -very- good thing you're going to see your doctor.

Just take it easy and try not to worry too much between now and your doctor's appointment. I've found that worrying only makes discomfort worse (I'm a worrier of the n'th degree normally  )

    Sounds quite annoying...
Could be asthma related? Maybe get yourself an inhaler. Then again I never claimed to be a doctor, so just do what he/she says :)

Argh; I still have mine. I had mononucleosis when I was about 18, and they swelled up so bad that I had to stay at the hospital and be fed through an IV! I do get tonsilitis every so often now, and the breathing thing is something I am familiar with; it took me awhile to figure out that was what it was caused by (the tonsils.)
I would get to a doctor; I am pretty sure that antibiotics could help.

I was just advised to take my 7 year old to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist to have his checked by his pediatric dentist. He thought it may be worth having them removed, so I'd guess they still do it. He asked me if he snored, and he does, so that can be due to the large tonsils as well.

I'd go and have it checked out, if you feel you have a problem then you should find someone who can help you resolve it. You know your body better than anyone else. Good luck getting some relief.

I woke up on a business trip in New Orleans with Strep a few years ago. That's EXACTLLY what my tonsils felt like.... Very scary. I drove 5 hrs back home and straight to the doc. One day of antibiotics, and they were already down, and not grabbing at each other, lol.... So, maybe you have a mild infection that is keeping them swollen???? Best of luck!!!!!

No, they still remove them. I had to have mine removed in december. I couldn't breathe through my nose for 4 or 5 days while lying down right after the surgery. Everything seems to have healed up okay, although I am going back to see my regular doc about some coughing I've been having.

Gurgie, it sounds like it's infected or something. I'd definately get in to see your ENT doc.

As far as I know I still snore, but I imagine I don't snore as badly as I used to.
