    ranco thermostat temp...
hey i got a ranco thermostat hooked up to flexwatt. Right now I have the thermostat set at 100(isthis too high?) The temp of the tank is still only 79-85. I am using a acurite indoor outdoor thermometer. I was wondering what anyone who has a ranco thermostat hooked up to flexwatt sets the temp of the thermostat to, to keep the right temps?

Are you measuring temps right above the flexwatt? What type of substrate (and how thick) are you using?

When I was using a tank and ranco, I had to keep the aspen layer pretty thin or it doesn't not allow the heat to rise. It gets trapped and will crack the glass, found that out the hard way.

Where do you have the temp probe at? Also are you just getting a "air base" reading if so - The probe should be tapped to the bottom right over where the flexwatt is.

As for my ranco - I have it set to 93 and it drops to 90 and goes up to 94.

I am just using newspaper for a substrate. I have the thermostat probe taped to the bottom of the flexwatt on the outside of the cage. Also shoudl the air temp be 92 or just the temp of the floor where the flexwatt is?

try putting the probe on the bottom of the tub, (outside).

tape in place, leave about 1/4" or less airspace between the flexwatt and bottom of tub. adjust thermostat to get temps right.

How long has it been set up?

Remember, it may take a few hours to heat up evenly and stabilize. Remember its got to heat up any thermal mass inside the tub - newspaper, hides, waterbowls, whatever else - so until then, you are going to get wierd temp readings on the stat and in the tub. Just give it some time.

I can't seem to get the temps right. It has been set up for almost a week now. Right now I have the themrostat set at 108 F. I have the probe attached to the flexwatt under the tub (outside). The temps in the cage are only 80-82 on warm end and 75 on the cool end. What should I do?

How thick of bedding are you using? I can't see their being a 25* difference from the bottom of the tub to the inside. Are you measuring temps on top the bedding or on top of the tub?

I just have 1-2 sheets of newspaper. I have the probe for the thermometer right above the flexwatt in the tub and it isnt reading anything above 84*.
Also should the temp of the tub be 92 or just the temp of the floor area?
