Actually, ball pythons are naturally shy secretive creatures ... typcially, "cruising" the cage is an behavior related to being in a new environment, a husbandry issue, sensing it's time for feeding day, or a host of other possible causes.
Sounds like your ball python is doing what it's supposed to do. ;)

You might want to consider a different type of hide. Something that is easier to access the snake. :D

I'd agree with Christie here. Nice dark, tight hides are what the snake needs of course but personally I don't want anything in their enclosure that I can't get them out of easily. We have a few BP's around here and I know if I walked into our snake room right now I'd likely not see a one of them (especially since last night was feeding night). They love their hides and are quite happy it seems curled up in the dark contemplating their snakey lives. :)
