    I love them!
Yes, they can be a handful at times but I couldn't imagine not having at least one in my life at all times now. Three is a bit much but 2 were rescues so I couldn't turn them away.

    They really are misunderstood animals.

not when taken care of properly

Most people think ferrets are gross because of how they are kept in pet stores. You have to understand that pet stores feed them crap food which makes their poop stink like crazy as well as keep them in tiny dirty cages/enclosures.

I feed high quality food (which makes a huge difference in the amount of poop as well as the odor), they have a massive 5 foot tall cage (4 levels), and I wash their bedding (fleece, blankets, ect) once a week.

I'm not going to say they smell like roses but mine don't smell like the 'average ferret' because of how I care for them. They will always have a slight smell because of the oils their bodies produce but you can only smell it if you put them right under your nose.

In my opinion and experience I haven't found them to have much more of an odor than rats. As long as they are fed a quality diet their poo tends to smell "milder" and as long as you don't over bathe them their scent glands slow down a bit.

Don't get me wrong, they do have a musky odor to them, but it is one I personally don't mind. Their trainability is amazing, I know several people that have them trained to go back into their cages (when they are outside of them) to use a litter pan.

Just don't leave any shiny, crackling objects around, they will disappear!:P

actually the more you wash them the more their skin dries out
when their skin dries out they will produce even more of their natural oil

I give mine a bath about once a month if that.

See, I can't STAND the smell of rats. It makes me sick. I think rats smell WAY worse. hahah

Mine will either go back in their cage to poop or they will go in the cat boxes. They also come out when they want and go back in the cage when they want to "put themselves away".

I'll tell ya.. I don't think you can get better entertainment as far as an animal goes. I laugh everyday because of the crazy things they do.
