    Silver lining.
All my fish died yesterday of a water temp problem... I will miss them dearly.. And yet now that I have another aquarium to convert into a terrarium. I want another snake really bad.. they are addicting I admit. I was thinking about another Ball python or a corn snake... Problem is, what will I do when I go off to college? do dorms allow snakes? anyway. I am going to wait until I have a job and the time to devote to another creature.... what should I get?

I would do what you want to do. Go with what you like to work with. Buy what you want. Don't buy into a fad if its not what you'd like to work with and keep, because all it will do is ensure your failure with it. If you like Corn Snakes more than Ball Pythons, then buy a Corn Snake. If you like Ball Pythons more than Corn Snakes, then buy a Ball Python. Choose what animal you like.

As for what you will do when you go off to college; no most all Dorms I know of won't allow animals. If your unsure of what you will do with the animal when you go to college, then simply hold off on buying it. Anything can happen from now until you get your life on track and really going. Take me for instance. I had quite a few Burms as well as an Afrock, a couple Ball Pythons, and a Retic, then when I turned 18 I enlisted in the regular Army. I had to sell my whole collection. I was unsure of what I wanted to do at the time. If your unsure as of right now, simply hold off for now. Trust me it can wait. It may seem like you can't wait, but you can ;)

the easy solution is to not live in the dorms - they suck anyway! personally i never lived in dorms but back in the day when i was in college i dont think anyone really enjoyed their dorm experience.

I loved my 2 year dorm experience. My roommate and I were trying to bunk our beds and since we lived in a co-ed dorm we had lots of help available. Just our luck the first guys we ran into were on their way to the showers and wearing towels. :D But I digress... (oh what fond memories!)

I would also recommend not rushing into another animal. Take your time and think about what most appeals to you. Also consider what you would do with the animal if you were no longer able to keep them. If it's likely that you won't be able to keep them, you may want to consider holding off until you have a more stable future. :sunny:

Don't go to college...lol just playin!

But seriously...i'm not a big fan of corns, so i'd go with the ball any day of the week. Theres just something about the look of a BP that will make you smile.

i think im going to get a male BP for kiki to dance with when she is older. I am already taking her to college so one more ball python wouldn't hurt i guess. I dont understand why having a snake would be a problem but silly weird girls. Oh my goodness people who are afraid of snakes need to take a chill pill and take the time to learn about them. snakes are soooooo pretty! silly dorm people... :carrot: all they do is party anyway.. they would never even know she was there

well luckily the college that im in is local so i can still live at home and keep my snakes.as for when i go to a university a couple of hours from here, i think i can handle taking them with me and keeping them somewhere in my dorm where hopefully they wont be seen/noticed.what would be even better is if my future roommate didnt mind snakes, then that'd make things easier.but thats just me,at the same time you can risk getting in trouble for having snakes in a dorm.

I honestly would hold off on that second purchase. Honestly I've never heard of any dorms allowing pets other than fish.

I don't think schools have an aversion to snakes, but they are worried more about smell, noise, or any other damage done to the rooms. I know snakes don't smell (with exception of after digesting a nice sized meal), but if you're allowed to have a snake then other people may try to push the limits as well and try to keep mice, hamsters, gerbils, lizards, rats, etc.

Along with that you'll need a heat source for the snake be it heat tape, UTH, CHEs, or other heat bulbs, which can be a cause for a fire concern for the dorms just as much so as a toaster, GF grill, etc.

Find out your dormatory rules before you try to push them, they wouldn't have an issue for expelling you from the dorms for breaking their rules.

Not trying to dissuade your ideas, just giving a heads up!
