here is a link to the ranco: http://www.reptilebasics.com/store/p...cat=250&page=1

you won't always find them at shows, so it might be better to go ahead and order it.

Ranco and Johnson Controls are good cheap alternatives. They are simple on/off thermostats that are priced from $50 to $80 based on whether you want to wire it yourself.

There are many other higher end models to choose from that are proportional thermostats. This means that it constantly adjusts the power output to your heat for more accurate heating. Helix Controls and Herpstat usually come highly recommended.

MG Reptiles & Reptile Basics have the best selection and prices.

I have two Ranco's. I only use the one since I no longer need the second one, but yeah they are good and cheap. Get the job done for what I need it for.

Ranco's work pretty good, I got three but replaced them all with a herpstat pro and never looked back. But for the budget you are on I'd say go with the Ranco. I have never used a Johnson so I can't comment on them. Whatever you do don't use an ESU.

I got my ranco last week and have had it running since then. I really like it and it was only $75.

If you are looking for a non-proportional stat and need a night drop, the Johnson Controls 419 has that capability. The last one I purchased was $54.00. The control relay required for making the night drop, the extension cord to wire it and the timer for the night drop combined were about $25.00.

Im wanting one that will work for me when i get a larger tank for my female bci. But i don'y wanna buy one then have to buy another layer on. I don't plan on breeding her so im not worried about the night drop.
